3rd Class

October 2016

3rd Class had a great time on their sponsored walk, particularly in the playground! A big thank you to the parents who came on our walk, and a HUGE well done to the class for raising €410 for the school!

Spooky Art!!

We designed and made their very own clay monsters. It was a long process, starting with designing the monster, then moulding the clay, painting it white before adding the bright colours and then finally adding the finishing touch of varnish!

Our long and messy process resulted in some beautiful (but scary!), bright and creative monsters!

Maths Time

We have been studying Data this month. As part of our maths work, we carried out a survey across the school to find out what the Good Shepherd’s favourite flavour treat is.  All classes had a choice of chocolate, mint, oreo, strawberry or bubblegum. Third class represented the data they found on tally charts, bar charts and block charts.

We then put together all of the data we collected to find out what the overall favourite icecream flavour of the Good Shepherd National School is, and the winner, with an amazing 82 votes was… BUBBLEGUM!

September 2016

Welcome to  Third Class!!

We have all settled back in after the summer holidays and are delighted to welcome three new students to the class!

Welcome to the Good Shepherd National School Samantha, Lina and Paul!

Science

Third Class were investigating the effects of friction on how far a toy car can travel. We wanted to find out if carpet, plastic, cardboard or sandpaper created the most amount of friction when a toy car travelled along it. Some of our results were surprising and some were conflicting, however, we all worked as scientists and carried out fair test investigations.

We recorded the distances the car travels using a metre stick.

One of our groups decided to use a pencil case to make their ramp.

Another group investigated how far the car will travel on sandpaper.

We work as a team: consulting one another on the exact distance their car travelled.

The boys are testing out the car before they use it in their investigation.

In our group we take turns to drop the car down the ramp.
