Violin Music Generation

Good Shepherd NS are privileged and honored to have been part of the Music Generation programme this year. Music Generation is a National Music Education programme . Co funded by U2 it has given the children in our school the opportunity to learn the art of music performance and how to play the violin!

Since last October children from 1st class, 2nd class, Ms. Horgan, Ms. Lernihan and Ms. Mcguinness’ classes have been busy making music under the musical direction of the fantastic Heather Cassidy.

Heather has been coming to our school once a week to work with the children and the results of her expert teaching have been utterly remarkable. We now have approximately 74 children in our school who can play the violin and who will continue on with their violin tuition next term. None of these children had ever held a violin prior to October 2018!

We are delighted to announce that we have been accepted onto the programme again for the next school year which means music performance in our school is going to go from strength to strength! Rumour has it cellos will be heard making music along with violins in September. The dream of a real school orchestra is at last becoming a reality – watch this space!!
