Healthy Living Week πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ₯•πŸ’

Namaste! We’ve been doing lots of yoga in the Junior Language Class. We started doing Yoga as part of Healthy Living Week and we noticed that it helps us wind down in the afternoons. It has quickly become one of our favourite activities. We love yoga!

We learned all about healthy food and had our second fruit tasting of the year. We love fruit like blueberries, pomegranates, cherries and mangoes. Grapefruit proved to be decisive!

We opened up our class restaurant and served healthy food to our customers.

We also took part in our school’s Healthy Living Week art competition. We designed healthy fruit and vegetable characters and submitted them to the judges. We had one lucky winner!

January in the Junior Language Class

We’ve been busy over the past two weeks getting back into routine after the Christmas break. One big change for us this term is that we are integrating with Senior Infants for Aistear time in the mornings. This has allowed us to meet loads of new friends. Have a look at us playing with our friends, old and new!

We’ve continued with our weekly violin classes on Tuesdays this term. We’ve learned about the different parts of the violin and the names of each of the strings. We’ve tried out both plucking the strings and playing with a bow.Β  We love the violin!

Christmas Week πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸ€Άβ

What an exciting week it’s been here in the Good Shepherd!

On Monday we had the Sam Maguire come in for a visit. On Tuesday we had the Garda band come in and perform for us, and Santa came all the way from the North Pole to see us too! On Wednesday we had our Christmas performance. On Thursday we completed our amazing penguin projects and had a Christmas art blitz. By Friday it was time for us to relax before the much awaited school holidays!

Wishing you all a happy Christmas and best wishes for 2019!

Science Week πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬

We really enjoyed Science Week at GSNS. Our favourite activity was going into the mobile planetarium dome in our hall. We also enjoyed looking and learning about birds from an expert, as well as the investigations we carried our in our classroom. Have a look at some of the fun!

In other news we had a very special visitor to our class who will be keeping and eye on us over the next few weeks. We named him Red Elf!

Fruit and Vegetables πŸŽπŸ‡πŸ’πŸ₯•πŸŒ

Our theme this fortnight was Fruit and Vegetables. We learned about different fruits and vegetables, how they grow, what they look like and what they feel like. We even tried out what they taste like!

At our Fruit and Veg shop:

Fruit Tasting

We had a yummy fruit tasting. We tasted strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, blueberries, red grapes, green grapes and raspberries. We talked about what they looked, felt like, smelled like and tasted like before picking our favourites. Strawberries and watermelon proved popular in our class!

At the Restaurant 🍽

This week we’ve been cooking up a storm in our class restaurant! Our restaurant has been very busy with lots of hungry customers. We had lots of fun in role as customers, chefs and waiters/waitresses.

We are learning all about fruit and vegetables this fortnight. We started by sorting out fruit and vegetables for our restaurant kitchen.

ROAR! Dinosaurs in the Junior Language Class 🐲

Our theme this fortnight was Dinosaurs. We’ve been busy learning about the different types of dinosaurs, what they looked like, what they ate and how to pronounce their very long names! We know that dinosaurs are now extinct, so we went back in time to explore the world of dinosaurs. We read lots of stories about dinosaurs and incorporated dinosaurs into our class work and play. We really enjoyed this theme!

Other Activities this Fortnight:

We went on a Nature Walk while the weather was still fine. We had a list of 18 things to try and find around our school grounds. We managed to find all but conkers and snails.

We have been learning about the five senses. We carried out an investigation to test our sense of touch, smell, hearing and taste. We identified things using only one of our senses each time. Have a look at our results:

Luckily for us, the taste test turned out to be M&Ms. Yum!

We went on our School Sponsored Walk to raise money for our school. Thank you to all of those who contributed.
