February Fun!

We’ve had a busy few weeks in the Senior Language Class. We had a very successful Grandparents Day on 31st January. We loved meeting all our students’ grandparents and hearing all about what school was like when they were young. We made cards and pictures for them and everyone had a great day.

We have also been learning about the Chinese New Year, we learned that 2019 is the Year of the Pig and we learned about the Chinese Zodiac Story. The children made Chinese lanterns to celebrate the Chinese New Year on 5th February.

We had a visit from a dietitian as part of the SuperValu Cooking Allstars Programme. She taught us about nutrition and simple recipes we can make ourselves.  We have been given lots of great equipment and recipes for our cookery. We are looking forward to getting started after midterm break.

Finally, we had a Valentine’s Bake Sale to raise funds for our school. We had lots of fun sampling all the treats and even had some left over to bring home for our families…Happy Valentine’s Everyone!

Project Presentation

Well done to all the children in the Senior Language Class who have been working really hard on their “African Animal Projects”. They did a fantastic job researching and gathering information in school and at home. On Friday, they each stood up and presented their work to the class. Great work everyone!

Healthy Living Week

We had a wonderful week last week celebrating healthy living week! We started with dancing at assembly on Monday and had lots of fun trying a variety of  healthy habits all week. We did yoga, fruit and vegetable sampling, mindfulness practice as well as lots of extra P.E sessions. The children also made posters to promote healthy living messages around the school. Well done to everyone for kicking off 2019 with such a healthy start.

December Fun!

We’ve had a super month in the Language Class this December. We’ve been busy in the cookery kitchen making some of our favourite treats like ginger bread men and flapjacks. We’ve made great progress with our Music Generation violin lessons. We’ve also been getting creative with our Christmas art making Christmas decorations, reindeer, elves and cards. Our last week before the holidays was a fun filled week with lots happening. On Monday we had a visit from the Sam Maguire, Tuesday we met Santa and had a sing along with the Garda Band. On Wednesday, we had our Christmas concert, which we had been practising for all month. It went so well and everyone was really proud. Finally, on Friday we exchanged our Kris Kindle gifts and had a well deserved Christmas party with lots of dancing and games. We hope we are on Santa’s “nice list” after all our hard work!!

Science Week

We have come to the end of Science Week, and what a week it has been! We visited the incredible space dome on Monday, where we learned about the stars and planets. On Wednesday, we carried out a crime scene investigation where we tested soil left at the crime scene to see if was acidic or basic and then carried out chromatography to identify what pen was used to write the note left behind. Miss Scarlett was guilty in the end! On Thursday we  met Ian and his amazing birds of prey, Christian even got to hold an owl…check out our pictures from a super science week;

Panto Trip

We had a fantastic time on our trip to the panto recently, despite the stormy weather! We were so excited to see The Snow Queen on stage as we had been reading the book and learning about the story in class for weeks beforehand. We loved the singing and dancing, especially joining in for “Baby Shark”. The best bit was the when the actors told all the children that the teachers weren’t allowed to give any homework! Back at school we made a mind map about the day and we are using this to plan a report on our trip.

We’ve been busy this month in the cookery kitchen. We’ve had lots of fun writing recipes and making a wide variety of delicious treats. So far this month, we’ve made smoothies, toasted sandwiches and French toast. We have some very talented little chefs in our midst!!

Happy Halloween!

We’ve had a busy few weeks in the Language Class preparing for Halloween. We kicked off the spooky season with a safety talk from Garda Niall and he even let us in his Garda Car. We had lots of fun getting ready Halloween by decorating our classroom and carving a pumpkin. We learned about the origins of  Halloween by participating in traditional Halloween activities like telling scary stories, playing “apple on a string” and making chocolate apples. Here are some photos of our ghoulish games….

Sponsored Walk

Thanks to all the children for their great work in raising money for the school through our sponsored walk. We headed out in the sunshine on Wednesday 10th October to complete our walk and stopped in the playground on the way home!

So Long, September!

We can’t believe we are waving goodbye to September already. We had a great month meeting our new classmates and learning about each other. Here are some photos of  what we have been up to over the last couple of weeks, including cookery with Ms. Horgan’s class and our trip to Rathfarnham Castle. We are looking forward to seeing what October has in store.
