People who help us…

This month we’ve been exploring the theme of ‘people who help us’ and we transformed our role-play corner into a Doctor’s Surgery. We’ve also been discussing the topic of winter and the wonderful things that come with it. Here are a few photos of us during our Aistear time…

The receptionist is taking appointments while a patient waits in the waiting room

The doctors and nurses are ready to treat their patients

Another patient waits patiently in the waiting room.

Dr. K checks a patient’s blood pressure to make sure it is in the normal range.

The hedgehogs are busy at the ‘Puzzle Table’. Here they enjoy puzzles and games based on Maths, Literacy and SESE.

The squirrels are using ‘play-doh’ to practise forming their letters and to decorate winter pictures.

The owls are telling stories in the small world town.

And finally, the foxes are creating sparkly snowflakes for our winter display. Everyone’s is unique which makes it their own special art piece.

Thanks for stopping by and check out our page soon to see our preparations for the Christmas season…

Junior Infants

Active Week!
Active Week!

We had so much fun celebrating Active Week in school! We had a brilliant chance to try out some amazing activities like:

  • yoga
  • football
  • crazy golf
  • games
  • sports day races and activies
  • dancing
  • obstacle courses

We had to do Active homework every night and wore our tracksuits into school every day! It was a brilliant week and had a great time doing lots of physical activities!

Butterfly Habitats
Butterfly Habitats

This week in Junior Infants we have been learning all about butterflies! We talked about the butterflies life cycle, we read the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we even designed our own butterflies in art!

Today we went outside to find places that our butterflies would like to live. We had a brilliant time finding perfect habitats for our beautiful butterflies!

The Weather Station

The Junior Infants made super weather forecasters as we played in our Weather Station last week. Each child had the opportunity to film an individual weather report using all of our weather words! We used different instruments like thermometers, windmills and rain gauges to measure changes in the weather throughout the week!

Snow was forecast by some of the children but we were unable to predict ‘The Beast from the East’!! We hope everyone has lots of fun playing in the snow this week!

Intercultural Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating Intercultural Day here in Junior Infants. We have children in our class from Ireland, Romania, Poland, Thailand, Nigeria and France. We had the opportunity to taste food from all around the world, listen to music from different countries and even watch a Bollywood dancer and learn some of her moves!

The Post Office

We have had so much fun in Aistear this week learning all about the post office!

In our socio-dramatic play area we pretended to be post workers, we wrote letters, filled out TV license forms and wrote passport applications.

We did other activities like making postcards and building post offices using blocks!

We took some pictures to show off what we’ve been up to!

A Visit from Sam!

We had a fantastic time on Monday when Colm Basquel and Hannah O’Neill brought the Sam Maguire into school for us all to see!

We liked hearing all about their matches and celebrating 3 All-Ireland titles in a row for the Dubs!

One of the Junior Infants had a chance to ask the players a question and even got to hold the Sam Maguire – Yes it is very heavy!!!

Our Visit to Santa

This Tuesday the Junior Infants were very lucky, we visited Santa Claus in St Tiernan’s Secondary School.

We went on a double decker bus!

We were greeted by Santa’s reindeer and elves who had lots of lovely treats for us! We waited patiently to see Santa…

He climbed over the roof!!!

We finally got to meet him!

We had a brilliant day!

Aistear Fun!

Each morning when we arrive in school we have Aistear. Aistear is structured play based on a theme, which is used to enhance our learning across the Junior Infants curriculum! We engage in Creative Play, Construction, Make-Believe Play and Games with Rules, we also play Literacy and Maths Games!

Aistear is a real highlight in the Junior Infant day and the children learn so much from the hands-on activities and from each other!
